Somali Organization for Minority Rights and Development (SMWCDO) previously known as Mudug Minority Women and Child Development Organization (SMWCDO) is a nonprofit making non political and organization established in September 2003. The organization was established by a group of dynamic and intellectual women to help and alleviate the suffering of women, children and youth particularly from minority communities.
Repugnant culture and traditions perpetuated gender disparities that hindered Somali women from getting their fair share of education, employment and other opportunities as well as resources. Years of conflict and anarchy have seen the shrinking of the few opportunities and basic services that existed. The result has been even more devastating for members of the minority communities.
SMWCDO has conducted more than 20 awareness forums, workshops and seminars on women and child rights related issues including elimination of FGM, GBV, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, HIV/AIDS.
